Brunswick County man pleads guilty to fentanyl trafficking, faces up to life in prison

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County man has pleaded guilty to federal drug and gun charges and now faces at least five years and up to life in prison.
According to court documents and information presented in court, John Broadway pleaded guilty to selling fentanyl, possession with intent to sell fentanyl and methamphetamine, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Investigators say Broadway sold fentanyl to a Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office confidential informant. A small child was present inside the home during the drug transaction.
Authorities later executed a search warrant at Broadway’s home, where they found methamphetamine, fentanyl, $8,800 in cash and 18 firearms.
“If you sell drugs, we will find you, prosecute you, and throw you in prison for a long time. Stop poisoning your community to make a little bit of money before rotting in prison. This is a lose-lose-lose proposition, so cut it out,” said U.S. Attorney W. Ellis Boyle.
