Brunswick County prepares for brush with Hurricane Matthew
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear is now under a Hurricane Warning. Along with wind, rain is one of the biggest impacts the region will see as Hurricane Matthew approaches.
Brunswick County Emergency Management officials say they are expecting life-threatening flooding over the next few days.
Deputy EMS Director Scott Garner says they do expect several roads to close with treacherous flooding on many of them.
Several folks have been out at the beach today checking out the bigger waves. Ed Stevens says this is his first major hurricane, and his biggest fear is the trees.
“Tie down stuff. Put stuff that’s flyable away. Waters there, food is there, generators ready,” Stevens said of his preparations.
Emergency Management says if you think you need to evacuate, you should do it now, because of the conditions the roads will be in.
