Brunswick County Schools awarded $50,000 grant to help recruit new teachers
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County is one of 20 counties in the state that has been awarded a grant to promote teaching fellows.
The $50,000 grant will be split between 5 students in the county who plan on becoming teachers.
The $10,000 given to each student would help cover the cost of college.
Brunswick County Superintendent Dale Cole said the grant will help the county keep future teachers at home.
“The data shows that if you can grow your own teachers, meaning you can recruit high school students into the profession, help them achieve that license, they’re gonna be much more willing to come back and teach at home where they can live close to home, where they can live close to family, who can help them with childcare as they have families of their own,” Cole said.
Cole said an application process will be created for the grant and the grant is expected to be renewed every year for 4 years.
