Brunswick County Schools feeds first responders as part of 2nd annual Holiday Meal Day
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Dozens of first responders from across Brunswick County enjoyed a delicious holiday meal with all the trimmings on Thursday.
Brunswick County Schools hosted its 2nd annual Holiday Meal Day at schools across the county.
At Southport Elementary School, more than a dozen police officers and firefighters enjoyed a big meal featuring turkey, gravy, green beans, and sweet potatoes.
Superintendent Dale Cole served meals to students and the first responders who showed up at the school.
Southport Elementary principal Peg Bourne said it’s a great way to do something nice for those who serve and protect us each day.
“I think that our first responders take such good care of our community and our students,” Bourne said. “They’re an integral part of our school system and our community. But they also provide that wonderful role-modeling for students and you never know, someone might be inspired to become a fireman or policeman someday.”
15 schools across the district took part in the free Holiday Meal event, with members of the Brunswick County Board of Education also helping to serve meals to 55 first responders.
