Brunswick County Schools holds STEM in CTE event for middle schoolers

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Schools held an event on Monday, December 9th, at which hundreds of students got first-hand experience in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

6th graders from every Brunswick County Middle School participated in the STEM in CTE (Career and Technical Education) event at the Nuclear Energy Education Center in Southport.

High school students from throughout the county involved in CTE helped lead the middle schoolers through hands-on projects, from making battle bots to tapioca.

South Brunswick junior John Slaughter said he enjoyed helping spark the student’s interests in STEM and CTE.

“So I think it’s great to teach these kids valuable lessons and as they approach high school, just teaching them, being a part of a CTE can be a very valuable lesson in high school and it can teach you many lessons,” Slaughter said.

Two of the most popular activities students participated in were making air cannons and miniature light sabers.
