Brunswick County Schools investigating after student injures teacher with scissors

LELAND, N.C. (WWAY) – A Brunswick County School elementary teacher is recovering after what the school system is calling an ‘incident’ that left a teacher with injuries from scissors.
The following is from BCS Chief Communications Officer Gordon Burnette:
Brunswick County Schools is aware of a recent incident at one of our elementary schools in which a student injured a teacher with scissors. Fortunately, the injury was non-life-threatening, and we are grateful for the quick response of our School Resource Officer, who provided immediate first aid. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and we are handling this situation with the utmost seriousness.
We are relieved to report that the teacher is doing well and recovering at home, and our thoughts are with them during this time.
The incident is currently under investigation, and we are reviewing our safety protocols to help prevent similar occurrences in the future. We are also providing support and counseling services to students and staff impacted by the incident.
We ask for privacy for all involved and appreciate the community’s understanding as we work through this situation.
