Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office gets approval to start work on law enforcement memorial

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Work on a new memorial honoring fallen members of the Sheriff’s Office will start soon.

During Monday’s Board of Commissioners meeting, Brunswick County Sheriff Brian Chism asked for the board’s blessing to move forward with the memorial.

The memorial will be for the Sheriff’s Office only and will feature three names and one canine on it.

Funding has been secured through donations from members of the community.

Sheriff Chism said it has been great to see the project’s support since the planning process started several weeks ago.

“Number 1, never forget those that laid down and gave the ultimate sacrifice,” Chism said. “But number 2, that this is coming from the community. The donations they have given to the Sheriff’s Office is what is allowing us to do this and I can’t thank the citizens enough. But it just goes to show the support that we have in the community and how much they appreciate law enforcement here in Brunswick County.”

Chism said he hopes the memorial will be completed by the end of this year but does not have an exact date at this time
