Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office holds Safety in the Home and Situational Awareness Training for residents

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is trying to help homeowners understand some of the best ways to protect themselves and their property from theft.

The sheriff’s office held a training class for more than a dozen residents in the Town of Carolina Shores Wednesday. During the session, participants learned about a range of topics pertaining to safety and situational awareness. Some of the best ways to protect your home or property is by installing security cameras, understanding self-defense laws and securing your home before leaving to go out of town. Ron Johnson, who lives in Carolina Shores, said its very beneficial learning about ways to protect himself and his property.

“I learn something from every training course, any course like this you always pick up on something. I’ve been into concealed weapon training and everything, but there is always something new.”

Deputies also addressed a number of other self-awareness tactics when you’re in public like knowing where exit doors are located, carrying pepper spray or knowing your second amendment rights.
