Brunswick County testing voting machines ahead of March primary election
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Board of Elections is getting ready for the primary election in March by testing all of its voting machines.
This testing is done before every election and involves putting ballots through each machine to see how they do in registering votes.
The ballots used are real and feature all of the candidates running in the election.
Each ballot will be filled out differently or sometimes not done properly to see if the machines catch the mistakes.
Sarah Lavere is the director of elections for Brunswick County.
She said it’s important to remember that Brunswick isn’t the only county that does this.
“Every county in North Carolina conducts logic and accuracy testing on their equipment before an election so this is not just something that we are doing,” Lavere said. “And this is not something new. We have been doing logic and accuracy testing of our voting equipment for as long as I have been here, which is 18 years.”
More than 2,200 ballots will be put through each of the 32 machines, with 5 early voting machines being tested throughout the week.
