BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — As fireworks light up the sky this Independence Day, local officials are urging residents to use 911 responsibly and keep emergency lines clear for true emergencies.

In a post on Facebook, Brunswick County reminded the public of when it’s appropriate to call 9-1-1  and when it’s not, especially regarding fireworks-related concerns.

When to Call 9-1-1:

  • You’re reporting fireworks violations

  • Someone is injured or in immediate danger

  • You see a fire or smoke you can’t identify or control

  • You witness a crime in progress

When Not to Call 9-1-1:

  • To ask what types of fireworks are legal

  • To find out what time a fireworks show starts

  • To report a neighbor storing fireworks at their house

For non-emergency fireworks concerns, residents are asked to call their local police or fire department or the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 910-253-7490.
