Brunswick Nuclear Plant shares results from emergency training exercise

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick Nuclear Plant conducted its bi-yearly emergency exercise earlier this week. On Friday they found out the results of how well they responded.

State and local emergency officials, along with representatives from Duke Energy took part in an exercise to test emergency response plans for the Brunswick Nuclear Plant on Tuesday.

The purpose of the exercise is to evaluate the response to an emergency.

FEMA evaluators shared their assessment of the exercise today.

Brunswick Site Vice President John Krakuszeski said the plant passed the evaluation with flying colors.

“This was a very successful exercise and demonstration by all of the agencies and facilities involved,” he said.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Federal Emergency Management Agency require such exercises every two years to test response plans within a 10-mile radius of the plant.
