Brunswick Regional H2GO says irrigation restrictions will remain in place during drought
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Despite recent rainfall, many places in the Cape Fear are still struggling with drought conditions.
During Wednesday night’s meeting, Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO discussed its ongoing irrigation restrictions.
Any metered H2GO customer can only irrigate their lawn twice weekly between 8 pm and 8 am.
H2GO commissioner Steve Hosmer said the restrictions were implemented in late May due to the onset of a flash drought and customers increasing the amount of water used to keep their lawns green during the drought.
General water use, which includes showers and cooking, has not been restricted.
Fellow commissioner Rodney McCoy said H2GO is working to ensure restrictions like the ones currently in place, don’t happen yearly.
“In the future, we have plans for more wells, which will give us more capacity,” McCoy said. “We also have plans for underground storage, up to 80 to 100 million gallons, which would give us a huge capacity in storage to mitigate the problems that this has.”
McCoy said the wheels are expected to be completed by next summer and that the irrigation restrictions are expected to remain in place until the end of the month.
