Brunswick Town NSDAR celebrates 50th anniversary
SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick Town Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution marked its 50th anniversary at their January meeting with a look back at the chapter’s history.
Discussions began about forming a chapter in Brunswick County from several women who were members of Wilmington’s Stamp Defiance Chapter. Brunswick Town was selected as the name since it was the first seat of colonial government in the state. Five people transferred from Stamp Defiance, two members at large joined, one lapsed member joined, and seven new members. All of the original members have died except Sandra Dail Thomas of Shallotte who served as the chapter’s first recording secretary.
Remarks were led by former regents Gwen Clemmons Causey and Carol Jutte at the meeting.
The chapter has continued to grow and they’ll begin their 51st year with 175 active and two dozen prospect members.
“We have a duty to carry on the good work begun in 1890 by our founding members to make our country and the world a better place, day by day, hour by hour,” Regent Barbara McIntyre said.
Worldwide there are more than 185,000 members in 3000 chapters. There are more than 100 chapters in North Carolina.
