Former Hoggard pitcher Bryan Sammons drafted by Twins

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Former Hoggard baseball standout Bryan Sammons has been selected in the MLB Draft.

Sammons, who just finished his career at Western Carolina, was the 8th-round pick of the Minnesota Twins Tuesday. The left-hander was the 226th pick overall in the draft

Sammons finished his WCU career tied for fourth on the school’s all-time career wins list with 27. His 325 strikeouts is second most all-time in Catamounts history.

Sammons was a three-year letter winner at Hoggard.

During the summer of 2013, he helped guide Wilmington Post 10 to the American Legion World Series. Sammons earned MVP honors in the Southeast Regional after tossing a complete game shutout in the championship game
