BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — The Burgaw Police Department has canceled its first National Night Out event because of the threat of inclement weather.

The event had been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. in downtown Burgaw.

Police announced the cancellation Monday, citing safety concerns for volunteers, vendors, first responders and community members.

The department said the event will not be rescheduled because National Night Out is observed on a specific date each year. Burgaw police said they plan to participate again in 2027.

The event was set to include food trucks, live music, children’s activities and informational booths featuring local organizations and community resources.

National Night Out is an annual campaign held in communities across the country with the goal of strengthening relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.

Tuesday’s event would have marked Burgaw’s first National Night Out celebration.
