Burgaw police chief resigns

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — In a press release Friday afternoon, Burgaw town leaders said their police chief is resigning.

According to Town Manager Chad McEwen, Chief Montrina Sutton put in her two weeks notice Wednesday evening. The two weeks will be an approved administrative leave, the town said. Former Burgaw Police Chief Wayne Briley was appointed as the acting administrative chief for the department today.

There’s no word on the reason for Sutton’s resignation. The resignation comes after a two-week suspension that ended Monday. Two positions were also cut within the department on Monday.
