Burgaw wall mural depicts town’s stories

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Across from the courthouse in downtown Burgaw, it’s hard not to notice a huge mural on the side of the ArtBeat Community Center.

It was painted by Canadian artist Danae Brissonnet along with a few hundred people from the community.

The artist traveled to schools, churches, the hospital, and heard many stories from locals about what makes this place special and unique. That was the inspiration behind this masterpiece.

The artist created an outline on the wall, and everyone got to painting.

“It’s bright,” Pender Arts Council President Rochelle Whiteside said. “It’s colorful. It tells a story, and if you just stop and look at it, maybe it tells something to your heart, and I think you bring to it what you feel when you see it.”

Whiteside says this project really brought the community together and hopes this is just the start of many more in Burgaw.

It took about three weeks to finish the painting.
