Burgwin-Wright House annual White Elephant Fundraiser

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Burgwin-Wright House and Gardens welcomed shoppers Saturday morning for its annual White Elephant Yard Sale — a fundraiser that encourages guests to name their own price.

Held at the historic site on Market Street in downtown Wilmington, the event featured a variety of donated items, including home décor, books, seasonal decorations, glassware, furniture, and collectibles. All items were available under a “pay-what-you-can” model, with every dollar going toward the preservation and programming of the museum.

According to the Museum’s director Christine Lamberton, the yard sale is not only a major fundraiser, but also an opportunity to introduce new faces to the site.

“We raise funds for our educational programming and the restoration of the building, of course… it’s fun! It’s a different crowd than people who may not come to the Burgwin-Wright House for the history tours but who enjoy finding treasures,” she said.
“We have some regulars who come every year, and then we meet a lot of new neighbors who have just moved to Wilmington.”

Museum members were given early access to the sale beginning at 7:30 a.m. The general public was welcomed at 8 a.m., with the event running until 2 p.m. Guests were encouraged to bring their own bags and boxes for their finds. Both cash and cards were accepted.

Organizers ask that no clothing items be donated for future yard sales. During the event, the Burgwin-Wright House remained open for tours and regular services.
