Burned puppy euthanized because of injuries

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — A woman’s puppy who was set on fire earlier this month has been euthanized due to its extensive injuries.

The Fayetteville Observer reports Cocoa, Dominique Clark’s 7-month-old miniature terrier, was euthanized Monday. On June 14, the puppy was set on fire and was badly burned on her hind legs and belly. Authorities arrested James Franklin Quick, Clark’s ex-boyfriend, charging him with felony animal cruelty and burning personal property.

Clark received $3,000 from the public to pay for the puppy’s treatment after she says she didn’t have the money to take Cocoa to urgent care.  An animal control officer paid for Cocoa’s initial treatment at Cape Fear Animal Hospital and was later transferred to N.C. State University’s veterinary school for treatment.
