WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Juneteenth events continued on Thursday as the Burnett Eaton Museum Foundation held its 5th annual Juneteenth Community Reunion.
The event included several musicians and performers, along with several speakers, who discussed the importance of the holiday.
Local vendors were also invited to sell clothes, jewelry, and other items.
14-year-old Maurice Gore said he was happy seeing people from all walks of life celebrating this unique holiday.
“It feels good to see people coming together, waiting to learn and wanting to have a fun time learning about the different stuff and stuff like that,” Gore said. “So, it makes, me, it makes my heart smile, you know, to see people learning about the history behind Juneteenth.”
The Burnett Eaton Museum Foundation is the only museum of African-American history in the Wilmington area.
