Burr says technology is the key to building the economy
ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WWAY) — North Carolina has the potential to be the economic epicenter of the United States according to US Senator Richard Burr.
Sen. Burr says with the national debt being as high as it is Americans have every right to be concerned about their economy. But he says he believes technology will be key for North Carolina, the country and even the world moving forward into the next five years.
During a visit to Elizabethtown Wednesday, Burr said North Carolina produces the second second largest pool of graduates of higher education in the nation, second only to California. He said that means an available workforce today and for the next five decades into the future. But we have to bring those jobs in first.
“Well one it’s training and retraining of the workforce. It’s understanding that we’ve got to attract people from outside. We’ve got to have skilled labor that’s able to work in manufacturing. But listen: we’ve got to unleash technology and let technology and innovation drive the future,” said Burr.
Burr encouraged his audience to keep the future in mind as they head to the polls this fall, saying the polices put in place today will impact folks for generations to come.
