Cael Willis breaks New Hanover County pin record as Laney beats South Brunswick
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)–It was a night of celebrations for the Laney wrestling team. The Buccaneers locked up their third Mideastern Conference title in the past four years defeating South Brunswick in duel action, 50-13.
At 170 lbs. Laney senior Cael Willis picked up a fall over Matthew McCarter in the first period in 1:16. The pin for Willis was his 109th, which now sets the record for the most pins in a career in New Hanover county.
The accomplishments didn’t stop there. Later in the night former Laney head coach Alan Sewell found out he is going to be inducted into the North Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
