Cake says more than ‘Happy Birthday’

GAINES TOWNSHIP, MI (WWAY) — Usually the most memorable part of any cake is how it tastes. But one birthday cake is going viral not for its flavor, but for its appearance.

When Lisa Aldrich picked up her cake at a Meijer’s grocery store in Michigan on Saturday, she was a bit surprised.

“I nervously laughed and headed to check out…” wrote Aldrich on Facebook.

The inscription “Happy Birthday Mandy” hadn’t been written in fancy cursive like you would expect having ordered a cake from a bakery, but that didn’t seem to bother Aldrich.

“…It didn’t really matter to me that it looked so bad- I thought people would think it was funny,” she wrote in her post.

After seeing the cake during check out, cashiers were in shock and offered Aldrich another cake, and eventually called the manager over. The group talked amongst one another and then thanked Aldrich for her reaction after seeing the cake.

“One cashier put her arm on my shoulder and said ‘The girl who wrote that has Autism. Thank you for smiling and thanking her – even though she’s not supposed to write on cakes, you probably made her day.”

The post has since been shared nearly 35,000 times.

“The moral of the story is that kindness is important,” wrote Aldrich.
