Cam Richards claims first place at O’Neill Sweetwater Surf Pro Am

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (STARNEWSONLINE) — Covered in a messy concoction of Nesquick chocolate milk, champagne and saltwater, Cam Richards etched his name in O’Neill Sweetwater Surf Pro-Am history Sunday evening.

Richards, a South Carolina native, won the 2016 pro division championship by besting Evan Thompson with a score of 8.57 out of 10.

“I’ve been doing this contest for a pretty long time, but I haven’t been doing it for the past couple years because I live out in California now,” Richards said. “It’s good to just come surf against all the people I used to surf against back when I used to live here.”
