Cameron Art Museum hosts Living History Day

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) — The Cameron Art Museum held its Living History Day on Saturday.

The event was held to honor the legacy of the US Colored Troops that served during the Civil War.

Many of whom fought at the Battle of Forks Road, which took place where the art museum stands today.

Exhibits included screening of a documentary about the Battle of Forks Road, as well as the short film “Legacy,” which follows the stories of US Colored Troops descendants.

Cultural Curator Daniel Jones says the event is important to understanding Wilmington’s diverse history.

“It’s important because it’s who we are,” Jones said. “Whether you’re from Wilmington or not, if you’re in this community, in this city today, you need to know what shaped it. You need to know what all went into the building of this community.”

If you missed “Living History Day” at the Cameron Art Museum, you can still view the exhibit “Monument” which honors the legacy of US Colored Troops until March 31.
