Camp Lejeune Marine awarded Bronze Star
ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WCTI) — A Camp Lejeune Marine was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor for his heroic efforts in Afghanistan in 2013.
The star was awarded to 1st Lt. James Salka in a ceremony aboard Camp Lejeune Monday morning. Salka is a platoon commander with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines.
In November of 2013, Salka led his Marines through enemy fire for more than 650 meters of open terrain to safety. At one point, Salka saw a wounded Marine fall to the ground. He picked that Marine up and carried him on his shoulders for more than 350 meters to safety.
