Candidate, town leaders talk insurance

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach Town Council members had a meeting Tuesday afternoon with Heather Grant. Grant is running for North Carolina Insurance Commissioner.

Grant says there are currently 11 major health insurance carriers in the state, and if she is elected, she hopes to bring in more to help keep costs competitive.

“One of the things that we have to do is get more competition in here,” she said. “And encourage those insurance companies and in some cases demand that they offer a decent product completely to 100 counties across the state so that we have good coverage for every person here in North Carolina.”

Grant is working her way across the entire state to speak with county officials before the election in November.
