Candidates file for 2010 elections
Today marked the first day for candidates to file for public office across the state. In New Hanover County, candidates lined up at the Board of Elections to complete the necessary paperwork verifying their name for ballots, Recording their voice for voting purposes and paying filing fees.
“We expect to be really busy today,” New Hanover County Elections Director Bonnie Williams said. “It’s really hard to say how many folks we will see today on the first day. It can be anywhere between 10 and 18 people the first day.”
The filing period continues until February 26. This year’s primary elections are May 4. The general election is slated for November 2.
