Cape Fear Community College launches Aviation Maintenance Technician program

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) is launching a new Aviation Maintenance Technician Program, offering the skills needed to enter the growing aviation industry.

The program is a two-part series that will introduce students to both aviation regulations and the essential mechanical skills required to work on aircraft.

The first course, Aviation Maintenance, will run from January 27th to June 16th. To accommodate busy schedules, the program will feature evening classes, providing flexibility for working individuals.

Erin Easton, Interim Director of Economic and Workforce Development at CFCC, believes this new initiative is a perfect fit for the Wilmington area. “I feel like this will be a great fit for our area,” Easton said. “With all the recent developments at the airport, including Avelo Airlines establishing a base here, it’s opening up more opportunities. We’re ready to help build the workforce.”

As the aviation industry is expected to continue its growth, this program will play a key role in providing well-trained technicians to meet the demand.

In addition to the general program, CFCC is also offering a dual enrollment option for high school students in New Hanover County. Beginning in Fall 2025, juniors and seniors will be able to take part in the program, giving them an early opportunity to start their careers in aviation.

Registration for the Aviation Maintenance Technician Program is now open.
