Cape Fear Community College to host marine technology career discovery night

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College will host a Career Discovery Night for its Marine Technology program on April 21, offering prospective and current students an opportunity to learn about careers in marine science and maritime industries.

The event is scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the W Building on the college’s downtown campus on North Water Street.

According to the college, attendees will be able to meet with Marine Technology faculty, ask questions about the program and tour laboratory spaces. The event will also highlight how the program incorporates classroom instruction with hands-on training on the water.

CFCC officials say the Marine Technology program provides technical training and field experience aimed at preparing students for careers in marine science support and maritime operations. Areas of study include the use of marine equipment and scientific tools, as well as skills applicable to ocean research, environmental monitoring, coastal management and maritime services.

The college said the program is among a limited number of similar offerings in the Southeast.

More information about the program is available on CFCC’s website.
