Cape Fear Garden Club’s oldest member looks back as club turns 100
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Garden Club is celebrating its centennial year, and on Monday, WWAY met with the club’s oldest member.
Dorothy “Dot” Bryant joined the club in 1970, several years after moving to Wrightsville Beach.
When she joined, the club had less than 60 members.
Now, they’ve grown to around 350 members.
Bryant began what is now known as the Hospitality Committee when she started serving coffee, doughnut holes, and cookies to club members before meetings.
Bryant served as the club’s president from 1977 to 1979 and said she enjoyed all of the time she spent with the club.
“I felt real good throughout the whole time that I was there and doing, met a lot of people, new people, that I didn’t, wouldn’t have met otherwise,” Bryant said. “It just was a good experience.”
Bryant is 98 years young and added she’s excited to see what the next 100 years has in store for the club.
