WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Saturday, Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity is hosting a planting event in partnership with the New Hanover County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association and the Cape Fear Garden Club.

Fifty shrubs will be planted on the berm of Haven Place, Cape Fear Habitat’s 35-home development off Castle Hayne Road.

Planting will start at 10 a.m. and the event is rain or shine.

The project is part of Cape Fear Habitat’s efforts to promote native plants and trees in their developments.

“Native plants are crucial to the natural ecosystem of any neighborhood,” said Lisa Williams, Cape Fear Habitat Grants Coordinator and lead of the project. “Native plants and trees provide food and shelter for local wildlife while protecting Haven Place from pollution and offering shade and privacy for the homeowners.”

Those attending are told to use 3101 Castle Hayne Road on your GPS.
