Cape Fear Highland Games held Saturday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Highland Games brought Scottish traditions to the Port City Saturday.
Traditional events included tossing the caber, throwing the hammer, and much more, but the day long festival also celebrated the Scottish tradition with a gathering of clans, live music, great food and beers from North Carolina.
One competitor said she has been training at UNCW for this event.
Mallory Clayton has been competing for over a year now and said, “It’s really similar to track and field, but we have all the equipment at home. We are from Wilmington so we practice over at UNCW a couple times a week.”
Clayton says she got involved through her boyfriend because she didn’t want to sit on the sidelines. Since then, she’s competed in 5 games and is glad Wilmington is now a new location for the Highland Games.
