Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary works to rescue, rehabilitate and care for parrots

PINK HILL, NC (WWAY) —  Did you know there’s a place in North Carolina working to care for parrots who are unwanted, abused or neglected?

According to Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary, a typical parrot can have as many as 30 owners during its lifetime. This non-profit organization is dedicated to rescuing rehabilitating and caring for the birds.

According to their website, CFPS’s vision is to build large scale aviaries in southeastern North Carolina where parrots can live out their lives in environments where they can fly and socialize with other birds.

The sanctuary is in Pink Hill and home to more than 84 different birds or flocks.

One bird, Charlie, is known as the Picasso of parrots. He is 61 years old and paints as a way to raise money for the organization.

You can also help with the effort to care for the parrots by becoming a member for $19 a month. You will receive a t-shirt with Charlie’s face on it.
