Cape Fear restaurants recognized for ‘best’ hot dogs

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — A few Cape Fear restaurants are getting statewide recognition by Our State Magazine for their tasty hotdogs.

Paul’s Place and Charlie Graingers were listed as the magazine’s top 10 hot dog places to see in the state. Paul’s Place has been around for more than 80 years.

Owner David Paul said the restaurant was featured in the magazine about 10 years ago, but it’s still a pleasant surprise.

“We’re very honored to be selected for something like that, I don’t feel like we deserve it really, but apparently somebody thinks the hot dogs are great,” Paul said. “That’s what keeps us here.”

David Paul is the third generation of his family to run the popular hot dog joint. He says getting to know the customers has been one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

“This is a little overwhelming at times, but we made a lot of friends just selling a hot dog,” he said.

And that’s something customer Maxcy Garrett can attest to.

“It never fails with the chili sauce they serve,” Garrett said. “You gotta have Paul’s famous chili.

Paul said he feels blessed with the success of the business, but never misses an opportunity to give back.

“People bring you to a higher level than you ever expected and now you’ve got to pay back.”

Trolley Stop made honorable mention on that list.
