Carolina Beach holds christening ceremony for newly renovated marina

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The town of Carolina Beach held a celebration for the recently renovated municipal town marina. It took place on Monday afternoon at 301 Canal Dr. near Stoked Restaurant.

The marina needed major repairs after Hurricane Florence in 2018. The project included installation of a new steel sheet pile bulkhead wall, floating docks, mooring piles, an elevated walkway, access piers, and pavement.

After the celebration, town staff collected public input and answered questions about the final phase of construction for the grassy area on the south side of the marina.

Carolina Beach Mayor Lynn Barbee said this milestone is one of many.

“Now it’s open again and phase three is our, what we’re tentatively calling, our centennial park which will be the park right adjacent to this and we have some plans for that coming,” Barbee.

Barbee said the town is also working on crafting a photo-op near the marina to draw in more foot traffic. Plans for that as of right now include an 11-foot sculpture that reads “I love CB.”
