Carolina Beach lieutenant promoted to police chief

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A Carolina Beach Police lieutenant has been named the chief of the department.

Town Manager Michael Cramer said in a news release Lt. Chris Spivey will be the new head of the force. Spivey was hired by the town in July of 2000. Spivey has worked his way through the ranks at the departments, staring out as a patrol officer and working his way up to detective, sergeant and finally lieutenant for almost two years.

His new position will be effective September 9, with an annual salary of $70,000, Cramer said.

Spivey takes over after former chief Ken Hinkle was fired earlier this year.
