Carolina Beach Mural Project announces artist the Centennial Whale Float

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach Mural Project announces the winning whale float artist.
Greensboro artist Gina Franco’s whale design will be installed on the whale float in February and will debut at the Centennial Proclamation Ceremony on March 6 at the Carolina Beach Marina. This float will then ride in the Azalea Festival Parade, representing the Town of Carolina Beach.
The Team Behind the Float:
The CB Centennial Committee and the Carolina Beach Mural Project both want to celebrate the amazing team behind the building and funding of the whale float. Matthew Shuttleworth, Jim Prill, Roger Kiser and Jerry Davis spent hundreds of hours building prototypes, testing materials, and shedding blood, sweat and tears since August 2024. The Shuttleworth family has funded the supplies, equipment, additional manpower, and is donating 50% of the mural installation.
This float is built to last at least five years. It will be displayed on select Carolina Beach fireworks nights, at the Carolina Beach Christmas parades, at future Azalea Festival Parades, and other events on the island.
