CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A Carolina Beach police officer has been chosen to represent the United States in an international law enforcement exchange program in the United Arab Emirates.

According to a news release, officer Paige Hulgin was one of 50 officers from 37 countries selected to participate through a partnership between the UAE’s Minister of Interior (MOI) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). The IACP is the world’s largest professional association for police leaders, representing more than 35,000 members across 170 countries.

Hulgin, along with U.S., Canadian and international delegates, will attend a five-month basic academy program at the Abu Dhabi Police College. The program, scheduled from September  through February, will be a condensed version of the academy and all expenses will be covered by the UAE MOI.

“I am very excited for this opportunity and am honored to be representing Carolina Beach and the United States,” Hulgin said. “I hope to be able to pass on the skills and knowledge that I gain through this experience to my fellow officers.”

Carolina Beach Police Chief Vic Ward said he was proud to nominate Hulgin for the program.

“She is an outstanding officer and truly represents the best of the best in community service and policing,” Ward said. “She will represent not only our agency, but the entire United States law enforcement profession, in an exemplary manner in this program.”
