Carolina Beach to Celebrate 100th Anniversary in 2025

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach is gearing up for a major milestone. In 2025, the town will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

The celebration will kick off on March 6th with the unveiling of a new “I Love Carolina Beach” sculpture at the marina. The sculpture, which is designed to be a photo op for visitors, is one of many events planned for the centennial.

Maureen Lewis, chair of the Centennial Committee, says it’ll be the perfect spot for selfies:

“It’ll be something for everyone to take their selfie with and send back to friends and family—look where I am!”

But that’s just the beginning. Local businesses, restaurants, and organizations are also joining the celebration, including the Fort Fisher Museum. Which will host a special “100 Years of Bathing Suits” exhibit, featuring items collected by local historian Elaine Henson.

“Elaine has collected bathing suits for the last hundred years, so that will be a special display down at Fort Fisher. There’s even a Carolina Beach lifeguard suit that will be on display!”

The festivities will extend throughout the year, partly due to the unique history of Carolina Beach. While the town was officially incorporated on March 6, 1925, town offices weren’t assumed until September 5th, which gives plenty of time to celebrate.

“Normally, people do a town celebration over the weekend, and we’re like, oh no, no—we know how to party! We want to make this a big, fun celebration. Then, when we looked at the history, we realized we had the perfect reason to do so!”

The excitement isn’t just from the town’s leaders—local residents are already gearing up to mark the big occasion. We spoke with a few people who are excited to see what the centennial celebrations will bring.

“We’ve been calling the Carolina Beach Boardwalk our home since 2014, and we can’t wait to keep calling it home!”

“I can’t wait to see what they’re going to do for a hundred years down here!”

“It’s just a mesh of lots of great programs, and everyone feels like they are a part of it.”
