Carolina Beach Town Council approves scaled-down oceanfront hotel project

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A major oceanfront development at Carolina Beach is moving forward after town council gave final approval to a rezoning request Monday night.
The decision clears the way for a new SpringHill Suites by Marriott, an oceanfront event venue and a rebuilt SeaWitch restaurant and bar.
The original proposal called for demolishing the popular bar and building a 100-foot hotel with a rooftop bar on the site. After community pushback, developers revised the plan, scaling down the project and moving the SeaWitch closer to the ocean.
In addition to the hotel and restaurant, the project includes new sidewalks, parking and street improvements along Carolina Beach Avenue North.
