Castle Hayne man charged with murder makes first court appearance

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Castle Hayne man accused of first-degree murder made his first appearance in court Monday.

Sunday afternoon, deputies responded to a home on Davis Lane in Castle Hayne following reports of a suspicious person on that street.

Two people—Rebia and Eric Hobbs—were found dead inside the home, both having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Rebia’s grandson and Eric’s nephew, 35-year-old Shan Shawon Hobbs was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

At his first court appearance Monday, Hobbs pled not guilty to both charges.

He asked for a court-appointed attorney and was given no bond.

His next court appearance is September 25.
