Catalytic converter theft sidelines 21 school buses, forces schools to close

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WWAY) — Schools in one Indiana school district had to close Tuesday after thieves stole catalytic converters from more than 20 school buses, forcing students into an eLearning day.
Michigan City District officials say 21 buses parked on school property were vandalized, leaving transportation staff unable to operate normal bus routes.
The Michigan City Police Department is investigating. The school district said it is working closely with law enforcement as the case continues.
Despite the disruption, neighboring school districts provided buses to help cover routes. All classes returned to normal on Thursday. As of Friday morning, 20 buses were back on the road.
