Causeway work nears completion
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Some of the biggest traffic jams in our area each day happen during rush hour on the Eagle Island Causeway between Leland and Wilmington. But things should be getting better there very soon.
The NCDOT says Hurricane Matthew caused no actual delays for the project beyond crews removing tree branches and other debris from the work zone.
The DOT says it still aims to have the Brunswick River Bridge open by mid-November.
It’s a day drivers are ready for.
“I am,” driver Paul Miller said. “I’m just curious. Once you get south on (US) 17, you’re still jamming all of that traffic into two lanes, so it’ll be interesting to see how much it really helps.”
Thursday starting on Good Morning Carolina and continuing on WWAY News at 5, Good Evening Wilmington and WWAY News at 6, we will tell you the five most congested roads in the area as part of Operation Gridlock driven by WWAY and the StarNews. The list may surprise you. Sunday, you can check out the 15 most congested roads in the StarNews.
