CCSO investigating drive-by shooting that killed a teenage girl

CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is trying to find the person responsible for firing a gun into a home that killed a teenage girl.

Someone fired a gun into a home on Old Stake Road south of Chadbourn around 2 am Thursday.

Columbus County Sheriff Bill Rogers said a teen girl who was in her room was shot.

Two deputies who first arrived on the scene performed CPR and attempted to save the girl’s life, but she died.

Sheriff Rogers said it appears to be a drive-by or that a car stopped in front of the home and fired a weapon, and people in the house shot back at the car.

“If anybody on Old Stake Road, 1004 Braswell Road has any cameras, any camera footage that hits the road, please contact the sheriff’s office,” Rogers said. “We’d like to look at your camera footage during that time to see if we might get a car or whatever. It was a drive-by shooting, you know it was a 17-year-old white female that is deceased.”

At least three investigators from the SBI are assisting the Sheriff’s Office.

Rogers said it’s a tragedy to lose a life this young.
