Celebrities visit with dialysis patients

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This weekend Wilmington is playing host to the Willie Stargell Celebrity Golf Tournament.

Today those celebrities made a very special visit to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Pro athletes, actors, and entertainers filled the Willie ‘Pops’ Stargell Dialysis Center to visit with patients. The money from the tournament helps support the Stargell Center to pay for dialysis treatment machines.

These celebrities and the patients said it was a great experience to spend time with each other.

“Because this is not an everything, thing that I do. So I was enjoying it so much, I had so much fun,” said Tausha McNeil a dialysis patient.

“You don’t know the challenges, you don’t know what they’re feeling. So if you can find a way to brighten up a day. Pull the shade up for them a little bit, let the sun in, say hello. Tell them to hang in there, keep fighting and there’s more on the outside waiting for them It’s special,” said Chris Hurdle, the Pittsburgh Pirates manager.

You can see Hurdle and all the other celebrities at the tournament taking place this Sunday.
