CFCC boat making students show off semesters of hard work

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today was a big day for the boat building classes at CFCC, as students showed off all of their hard work.

It takes three semesters to go all the way from plans to completed vessel, and professors in the program said these students really have something to be proud of.

“Oh, it’s just nice seeing the students enjoying the fruits of their labor. And it’s nice for people to come down and see what they’ve done. You know it’s their first boat. They’re kinda proud of it,” said Mark Bayne, the Lead Boat Instructor of the Wooden Boat Building Program.

“They’re all looking for jobs and this is just something they can put on their resume, another opportunity for them to showcase their work and the skills that they learned,” said John Olsen, the Lead Boat Instructor of the Manufacturing and Service Program.

The boats will go up for auction now and the money raised will go back into the program.

Sign-ups are open for the upcoming semester for both day and night classes.
