CFCC Foundation hosts annual Gift of Education luncheon
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Community College Foundation held its annual Gift of Education luncheon at the Schwartz Center Wednesday afternoon.
Hundreds of people attended the foundation’s largest fundraising event. The purpose of Wednesday’s event was to raise money for scholarships.
Every year hundreds of college students are granted scholarships from the foundation including recent CFCC graduate, Patrick Wilkerson.
Wilkerson went from almost dropping out completely to graduating with a 4.0. He was one of the speakers at the event and says he could not be more grateful to give back.
“To help raise money for students that were like me at one point,” Wilkerson said. “I used to worry about where my next meal is coming from. I used to not be able to concentrate on my studies. But now, through financial aid and with Cape Fear’s help, I was able to fully concentrate on my studies and be a college graduate.”
Wilkerson says thanks to CFCC he will be heading to UNCW in the fall. Wilkerson plans to get his bachelor’s in computer science with a concentration in business.
