CFCC hosts public 9/11 remembrance Friday


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The public is invited Friday as Cape Fear Community College marks the 14th anniversary of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is scheduled for Friday 8:30 a.m. ​at the CFCC Safety Training Center, located at the north campus in Castle Hayne. Visitors can enter the campus at 4500 Blue Clay Rd.

The event honors the victims, first responders and survivors of the 2001 terrorist attacks. It will feature remarks by CFCC President ​Dr. ​Amanda Lee, a silent procession by students in the college’s First Responders Academy and a plaque dedication, which explains the significance of the student-made memorial completed in 2011. The National Anthem will be performed by CFCC student Anna Emery along​ with​ student-led poetry readings, lowering of the flag by the CFCC Fire Academy and a bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace” by Major Andy Simpson.
