WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College will host an information session for individuals interested in pursuing a career in Geographic Information Systems on Tuesday, March 31, at 6:00 p.m.

The session will take place in the NB Building, room 135, on CFCC’s North Campus, located at 4500 Blue Clay Road, Castle Hayne, NC. There is no cost to attend the event.

During the session, attendees will have the opportunity to meet directly with the GIS program instructor, who will showcase previous student projects, discuss the skills and technologies covered in the program, and answer questions about coursework, career opportunities, and industry trends.

CFCC’s Foundations of Geographic Information Systems certificate course is designed for both beginners and professionals seeking to develop essential mapping and spatial analysis skills. Students in this program explore core GIS concepts, data types (vector, raster, and tabular), and geospatial analysis techniques while gaining practical experience with ArcGIS tools.

This course provides the foundational knowledge necessary for entry-level GIS tasks, including creating and sharing maps, as well as performing data visualization and spatial analysis.

The course is offered in a HyFlex learning format, allowing students to complete the class fully online, in person, or through a hybrid option. The course is a 20-week, 170-hour comprehensive training program that meets twice a week in the evenings and includes approximately 2.5 hours of asynchronous online work each week. The registration cost is $240.
